Chinese Company Wants to Build Light Rail for Cambodia’s New Airports

BEIJING: Chairman of the Board of Directors of the China Metro Group, Li Kuo, informed Prime Minister Hun Manet about the company's plans to study the development of light rail system for Cambodia’s two newest international airports in Phnom Penh and Siem Reap.

The Chinese businessman met with the Cambodian Prime Minister on October 17, 2023, during the Third Belt and Road Forum, where he said the potential light rail would connect the airports to their nearby cities. He also mentioned his company’s interest in studying traffic congestion solutions in Cambodia.

The Prime Minister thanked Li Kuo for the support and approved the company’s studies related to traffic issues in the Kingdom. He recommended the China Metro Group consider all related aspects, including light rail, flyovers and subway systems.

The new Siem Reap Angkor International officially began commercial flights the previous day, on October 16, and is expected to boost tourism to Cambodia’s most cherished tourist site.
